Snowflake Card

I absolutely love snowflakes, so here is my card!



I cut the card out of blue glitter paper with my Beyond Birthdays Cart at 9x8in using my gypsy. The rectangles were all cut from the Don Juan cart at various sizes.



I embossed the white paper with a stamp and silver embossing powder to make the background paper. Then I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the dark blue paper with my snowflake embossing folder. I used silver ink to add dimension and bring out the pattern on the darker paper. I distressed the ruffled rectangle with blue ink to bring it out, and added a stamp to the center box. I added blue glitter glue and two snowflakes to bring everything together!

Card Swap with Scrappy-go-lucky

Onto my card:

The theme for this card swap was "Fantasy". When I think of fantasy I think of elves, fairies, dragons, and princesses! I had to narrow it down a little and when I found this stamp by Inkadinkado, it was perfect!

I love butterflies, and what I loved most about this butterfly is that it was made up of three fairies. Do you see them? Inside the card there is another stamp from the same collection that is a flower made up of butterflies. Isn't it true that fantasy is not always what it looks like:)

For my card, I cut my black cardstock down to 12 by 4, and scored the long side at 4 inches and 10 inches to get my side gatefold. I stamped the Butterfly onto white cardstock and carefully cut around it to leave a slight border. I then attached it to the silver glitter cardstock with a single piece of super sticky tape down the middle, so that I could crease the wings slightly to give it some dimension. I then carefully cut the silver cardstock. and attached it to my card. I used another stamp from Inkadinkado for the silver swirl on the other side of the card. I added some pearls and jewels to jazz it up a little bit.

My first sewing project

I have tried multiple times to learn how to sew and have never been successful. I am trying again, with the help of my friend Kim, to learn how to sew, crochet and knit in exchange for piano lessons for her son. Yesterday she walked me through the basics: ironing the fabric to avoid being out of square, finished edges, how to put thread on a bobbin, how to get the thread and bobbin correctly in the machine, how to put pins in the fabric, and finally how to sew. I practiced on a scrap a few times before I tried the pillow.

I am so proud of how well the pillow came out! I did everything with wonderful supervision, but feel really good about doing it myself! I told Kim that once I learn to crochet, maybe I can make a flower and hand sew it on the pillow to make it a little less plain. For my first project though, I did well!

Next up- a table runner! Other upcoming sewing projects: a fancy pillow with trim for my living room, Roman shades for my dining room, and maybe one day I will brave making some pajama pants (the last time I tried pants was the end of my sewing experience up til now-it was bad. Who knew that you were supposed to sew the front to the back section, instead of the two fronts together and the two backs together?) Who knows what else we will make, but I'm excited to learn!

Adult Halloween/Birthday Card

My friend Jeff's birthday is October 31st, so I had a great time making him a halloween/Birthday card. Every year when we celebrate his birthday, when he sees me he says "Hey Trick, where's my treat?" So this year when I was contemplating a card for him, I decided to tease him with his own humor.

I got the sketch from Jitterbuggin, and went from there!

I cut out my girl, ghost, hair and bikini from the Paper Doll Dress Up cart at 3 in. I then cut out the bag and candy from Doodlecharms at 2 in, and added some star bling. I did this as a z-fold card-which is my first! I had been thinking of making one, and when looking at the sketch I could see a gatefold, I knew that this fold would work as well.

Card Swap

It feels like such a long time since I've posted anything! It has been a busy two weeks and I've primarily been working on cards for a card swap that I'm finishing up! The theme was Fantasy and we were only allowed to use black, white and silver. It took me a while to come up with what I wanted to do. When I think of "Fantasy" I think of fairies, dragons, castles, ogres, elves, etc.

The main part of my card is this great stamp I got at Michaels made by Inkadinkado. I love buterflies and when I saw that this butterfly was made up by fairies I thought it would be perfect! Can you see all three fairies? The stamp inside the card is a flower made up of butterflies:) I cut my black cardstock to 12 by 4, then scored at 4 and at 10 to get the side gatefold. I stamped the image onto white cards stock and then cut around it. I then used sticky tape to only put adhesive on the middle when I put it on the silver glittery paper so that I could bend the wings up and give it some dimension. I then cut the silver paper slightly bigger than the butterfly. I also used another stamp from Inkadinkado for the swirl on the outside. I then added gems and pearls to give it a little bling. It is simple, but I think it turned out beautifully

God's gift of Music

This week, Crafty Creations had a challenge to make something with a music or dance theme. With me being in music ministry, this is a perfect theme. I think half of the cards I make are music related.

I used a stamp for my primary image that says "The gift of music is a gift from God". I also used a piece of music as one of my background papers.

Besides music, I love glitter and bling:) My husband always finds glitter on me, even when I haven't been crafting! I think it must be in our air!

This was my first time tring to distress , and not sure how well it worked. I thought that the white circle just needed something else, so I rubbed my inkpad around the circle to help it stand out a little. Then I added a few glittery and pearly flowers, a few gems and ribbon to finish it off.

Birthday cards!

September is a busy birthday month! I have two friends with birthday's today even! So, guess what I made this weekend? Yep...birthday cards:)

I scraplifted this design for Dawn's Stamping studio. Here is the link if you want to learn how to make this design. I loved it and this was my first attempt at making this card, and I think it turned out wonderfully! I love the fact that it folds down for mailing and then can stand up to be able to see it!

The pink polka dotted paper and black and white flower paper I have had for about 2 years and this was the first time I had used it! I went on a shopping spree a few years ago when Michales had their paper really cheap and I still have not used even a 1/4 of the papers I bought! I used a stamp for the flowers and the Happy Birthday Sentiment on the pop up section. I actually drew and colored Kim's name by hand. I love the color combo of the black, pink, white and gray! I finished it with a glittery flower, ribbon and three buttons.
